- Title origin: "Sea of Green" comes from the Beatles song "Yellow Submarine". Frankly I have always thought that this was my best title, and I really have yet to top it.

- References: Harvey Fierstein, especially as mocked on Saturday Night Live; Jason from the "Friday the 13th" movie franchise; "The Simpsons"; Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"; Norse mythology; "Bullets Over Broadway"; the Marvel Comic series "Excalibur"; various DW episodes including "Beauty and the Beet", "Twin Beaks", "It's a Wonderful Leaf" (sort of), "Merchants of Menace", "That Sinking Feeling", and "Paraducks".

- In retrospect I'm not all that fond of this story, although I guess it's better than it could have been. Bushroot was always one of my favourite characters, and it shows in the way I write him. I suppose what it really comes down to that bothers me so much is that this sets this strange standard of Beth having some strange charm over men in St. Canard... coincidentally the men in St. Canard who are my favourite characters *g*. What I actually was trying to go for in this wasn't so much that Beth was the perfect match for Bushroot, but rather the idea that Bushroot is so desperately lonely that he goes overboard any time he gets any kind of friend. Instead it seems to have spawned another admirer for Beth, who holds a torch for her. Oh well - if you don't like that idea, just remember my original intent, and maybe you won't mind so much. ^_~

- This was not only one of my earliest stories, it was also one of my earliest rewrites - I 'polished it up' only a few months after I wrote it, and I hadn't hit my next "stage" of writing yet (I tend to go through "stages" of gaining skill, like in a video game *lol*), so while it's a bit tighter it's not actually better. In fact it's rife with strange little out-of-character moments based on half-baked ideas. Although I do get a chuckle out of the "Plant God" routine - what the heck was it all ABOUT??

- This one, like "Kingdom", will probably get an extensive rewrite when I have the time. Oh, the things I shall do when I have the tiiiiime...

- The weird little moment at the beginning where Gos is making crank calls and getting into trouble while Darkwing is out was originally intended to sort of parallel the trials both Darkwing and Beth were each going through in their separate vocations. Initially, for example, each experience was going to have a direct similarity - like Gosalyn breaking something in the house with a football, while Darkwing was fighting a criminal dressed as a football player. That didn't really go anywhere. :P

- Running gags abound in this particular story. "Quiet, you!" was one that I picked up from the Simpsons; another strange injoke that no one will get is when Bushroot and DW are fighting and they call each other "Saracen Pig" and "Spartan Dog!" That was a running gag in "Excalibur", my favourite comic book of the time. ^_^ Um, another one was whenever Beth would be surprised by something, or taken aback, she'd lose her concentration and blurt out "Uh? I mean, what?" which I believe turns up in this one. Unfortunately - or maybe not - most of these were dropped later, when I ... well, forgot about them *lol*.

- Someone told me that Beth having a green thumb was "not in character" for her or something (I think they meant it was too much of a plot contrivance). I disagree in the fact that she IS my character, and this was only her second appearance, so technically nothing was "out of character" for her at the time. However, in retrospect, I do agree that it had the suspicious look of a certain Ms. Mary Sue to it. It's HARD to write an original character, and give her talents and/or skills, without making her look like Little Miss Perfect. Especially when you keep making familiar characters fall for her for no apparent reason. *G* In any regard, I hope that in later stories, Beth doesn't look quite so Uber-Characterish. "Elizabeth Sue"... "Mary Beth" - woohoo!
