- Title origin: Basically, the reason this story has two titles is because I was leaving myself an opening to do a series, if inspiration struck. Still might, if it ever does. *g* The series, then, would have been "The Adventures of Young Darkwing Duck", and the title of this particular story is the Duckboy one. Secondly, the over-elaborateness of the Duckboy title is sort of self-mockery. I originally was going to call it "Heroes for Hire", until I had it pointed out to me that there was a DuckTales ep by that name. So to avoid confusion I decided to change the title, but couldn't think of anything good to change it to. So I gave up on the idea of a really *good* title and went for the worst I could think of, instead. ^_~

- This story was written to "cleanse the palate" between Webfoot stories. I had just spent the better part of a month working nonstop on "Prince of Thieves", and was a little burnt out on Beth for the time being. So I decided to write a non-Beth story, sort of just to prove that I could, and I went to this plot outline I'd done for an origin of a comic book character I was working on, YEARS ago. It took very few tweaks to make it work for Drakey, which just goes to show you how much that character was stolen from DW without my realizing it at the time. ^_~
- My ideas for Drake as a kid were just sort of off the cuff. In my original version Drake's mother was nameless, but a friend of mine wrote her with the name Claire in her fanfics (never released) and I think she was a polititian, so I alluded to that as an injoke. Having Drake's full name be Dracob was a spur-of-the-moment gag that I really liked. :D And the name of Drake's street, Quackenbos, was the name of a real street sort of near me. I love the name of that street, so Quackenbos shows up wherever I can fit it in as an injoke.
- Ruth Feathernest: I like 'er. Shallow and self-centred, but as her POV scenes prove, not really nearly as nasty as Drakey thinks she is. She's a good person, she just hides it really well. *G* I do love the bits, however, where we see how much of her perception of reality is off - like her belief that Charles has a crush on her, whereas he actually hates her...
- Funny thing about the name Duckboy: I hated it as much as Drakey did. All of his attempts to come up with a better name were basically echoes of my own. Then again, there's something so pathetically cute about him being stuck with a crappy name, that it works on some level. But I would have liked to come up with something a bit better, either more clever or more basic. Incidentally, another personal injoke: The Black Crusader was the name of my DW-inspired hero.
