Q: how do you know about a third sesoson? ^_~ (submitted by licky lover)
A: I'll assume you mean, how do I know the very small details I've posted, and not how do I know there won't be one. Anyway, the details I have are just the result of being in the right place at the right time. I have a few friends who used to do the newsgroup thing (we're talking LONG time ago, back in the early ninetaies still) and Tad Stones did used to post in these groups, so most of the details I have just came via him. After they nixed a third season of "Darkwing", he wasn't banned from talking about what he would have done if the third season had gone ahead, so that's how we got our news. :) A lot of information just floats around the internet, too, though you'd do best to verify that it's from a reputable source; DAFT Chats used to get a lot of good info from Tad Stones as well, so anything that comes in news through there is legit. Anyone randomly saying "there will be a movie!" is likely NOT, though. ;)
Q: is thaddeus rockwell tad stones, cartoon version of himself? (submitted by spider summer)
A: Having not seen Tad Stones in the flesh I don't know how close he is, but I'm sure that they based at least a little of his design around the man himself. I somehow greatly doubt, though, that he sounds quite like that. ;)
Q: You've mentioned plans for an ultimately unmade season. And I've heard tantalizing ideas about Morgana and Darkwing getting married--also, I've heard that Tad Stones wanted to make a kind of "ultimate origin" episode for Negaduck. Have you heard any more concepts or specific details about these or other ultimately unmade episodes? (I'm sorry, I realize this is more of a question about DW the show than it is about DW the character....) (submitted by cartoon6@hotmail.com)
A: I wish I knew more. :P I know that most likely Taurus Bulba would've been back, and there were rumours - RUMOURS ONLY mind you - that Launchpad and Sara Bellum were going to have a romance. Which made my inner fangirl pout when I heard them, but now I think it's kind of funny. (Only because it didn't happen. :P) Other than that... Well, there's just not that much that's been leaked.
Q: Is Darkwing really as protective of Goslayn as he
seems? It seems like he won't let her move with out him jumping in front of her. (submitted by maryjean04@aol.com)
A: Drake is a pretty darn protective parent. He's one of the more attentive parents in Disneydom, it seems to me; he tries to watch Gosalyn all the time, and she has to work pretty hard to get around him. I think she'll thank him for it when she's older. ;)
Q: St. Canard is an island, right? I can't remember... (submittedy by bearnecessity85@yahoo.co.uk)
A: Yep, sort of like Manhattan. That's how it's sealed off from everyone else in "Just Us Justice Ducks"!
Q: Why is there a statue of Basil from The Great Mouse
Detective by Drake's chair? He always hits the poor little thing on the head, you notice. (submitted by mouse_lady@angelfire.com)
A: Injoke. :D Darkwing and Basil share a few traits - namely being detectives, being rather arrogant, and being complete babies when their egos are popped (and I love Basil, I honestly do, that's all said with love ^_~). In fact, when I rewatched that movie a couple of years after Darkwing started, I was really taken by their similarities.
Q: I'm really curious as to how the show's creators came up with Dw's looks. You know, with the fedora and the slightly big bill. As odd as it seems, all aspects of Dw come together for a really good character. I'm just curious how the creators came up with that, as well as the whole thing with Dw's legs-have you noticed that every other duck drawn has these tapered feathers and then orange legs sprouting from the lower half, as apposed to Dw, who's feathers kinda run into his legs-I was just curious if it made Dw seem thinner or something, considering he looks a lot thinner in comparison to Donald Duck or even Gosalyn if you overlook the size difference. Weird question, I know! (submitted by gosalyngirl@hotmail.com)
A: Okay, the part I *do* know: Darkwing's appearance is based on The Shadow, a radio vigilante from the 30s-40s. That actually kind of includes the big bill. ;) Although you can immediately find a lot of Batman influences in DW, the "Shadow" influences are just as strong, especially in earlier episodes like "That Sinking Feeling" and "Darkly Dawns the Duck", not to mention the whole concept of his "I am the terror" speeches. As for the parts I don't know - his physical design - I can only really speculate that the person who designed him just liked his legs that way. ;) He does look slimmer because of it, though - that's a good point. Also, having his legs that way kind of makes it look more like he's wearing pants. ;) (My favourite subject!)
Q: Hi! I love Drake very much! He's cool! And you? Do you love him so much? (submitted by IrinaDell@yandex.ru)
A: I know I said I wouldn't answer these kinds of questions anymore, but... I do. I DO love him so much. :D
Q: In your opinion,Would Disney be having plans for a
Darkwing Duck Motion Picture in the near future ? (submitted by justinsmith10@msn.com)
A: In my knowledge, no. :) Among other reasons, they are no longer working with traditional animation; it's all CGI from here on out.
Q: Did DarkWing ever set his sights on white collar crime, or on crimes committed by organizations (not counting FOWL) such as corporations and the like (things like scamming, unethical business practices, and predatory monopolism)? If he didn't in the official episodes, what kind of white collar criminal would make an apt villain in a DWD episode? A powerful corporate megalomaniac, or a corrupt government official? What would DarkWing do if the law were being tainted by criminals in the government? (submitted by stevechisnall@mac.com)
A: ...Wow. That sounds like fanfic speculation. :D I'll try and break that down into three questions. First: No, I don't recall him working on white collar crime. (He's not fond of yuppies, though.) Second: I think a Darkwing episode would be more likely to "take on" a corporate Evil Greedy Villain over a government official. "Darkwing" as a series tended to shy away from government on the whole. On the other hand they came rather close to tackling corporate greed with The Liquidator's origin, where the head of a corporation is sabotaging his competitors. So it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to go on to embezzlers, and so forth. Third, this is all speculation of course, but Darkwing would not be one to stand corruption in the government. Part of why Darkwing works outside the official "law" is so that he doesn't have to conform to anyone else's rules (ie, SHUSH and their excessive paperwork); although it's not within the mood of the series itself, it is plausible that Darkwing might have separated himself from the police/government in order to stay away from corruption, as well. (This would be completely a fanfic kind of world, though.) Now, as to what Darkwing would do if he found that kind of corruption going on: I honestly think he would be the type to put himself at risk in the hopes of taking them down. If he were warned to stay away because it's "too big" for him I don't see Darkwing heeding that kind of warning. He might, at least at first, leave himself and his family open to all kinds of danger because of it, too. :-/
Q: how many issues did the Darkwing Duck comic book survive? (submitted by Shaporper@yahoo.com)
A: Good question! I shall have to research that one. Anyone who might know, send us a line!
Q: What is the name of the bridge that Darkwing uses for the Darkwing Tower? I have yet to find the answer. (submitted by Anonymous)
A: That would be the Audubon Bay Bridge. :)
Q: What other love interests has Darkwing had besides Morgana? There were at least two others who set their sights on him... (submitted by squishytwig@aol.com)
A: This is proof I'm rusty on DW lore. The two that come to mind right away are Honker's Aunt Trudy, and Isis Vanderchill. Aunt Trudy was in "Twin Beaks", and is apparently Binkie's identical sister; she wears an eyepatch and talks with a thick Southern accent, and Darkwing is inexplicably taken with her instantly. Isis Vanderchill was in "All's Fahrenheit In Love and War"; she was the villain. From the start she was smitten with Darkwing, but she's... um... not his type :P So after trying to force him into a relationship, she settled on trying to kill him. Other than those two, Darkwing has had a pretty mild lovelife, it would seem. We never learn of any old girlfriends, or even first crushes (one assumes that he was never really impressed with Prina Lott in high school). Kinda too bad, if you ask me. That always makes for good stories. ;)
Q: This is not DW's outfit is modeled after The Shadow, and it
appears you don't like to link him to Daffy Duck(who wouldl:) ), but have
you ever noticed how close Darkwing looks to Daffy when Daffy plays The
Scarlett "Pumpernickel?". (submitted by marvinmars@knology.net)
A: I have been misrepresenting my appreciation of Daffy, I think. ^_~ I only meant to say that Darkwing is really a very different character in some ways from Daffy and it's not fair to claim he's a Daffy "clone", but that doesn't mean he doesn't share a few traits. And you're right about the outfit! Who could not love the Scarlet Pumpernickel? :D
Q: What information do you have on the Mallard family tree?
A: I myself have very little. However, this is a question that readers here LOVE to research, and they've provided me with a lot of information! Check here to read what people have dug up!
Q: So...based on what I've read, are the Mallards related to the
McDucks? I'm a bit confused... (submitted by the_terror_that_flaps34@yahoo.com)
A: Canonically, no, and sorry for the confusion. Anything on this page is just speculation by the fans, because Disney has used the last name "Mallard" in other venues, so unofficially it could be a possibility. But there's nothing on either show to suggest a relation; we're just having fun. ^_^
